Press Release
Bear Awareness Day

New Bedford, MA - May 14, 2007 Artist Ross MacVicar will be donating a new wooden bear to the zoo on Bear Awareness Day, May 19 2007. Visitors will have a chance to be one of the first to see the new carving, and watch him create a beautiful piece of art out of an ordinary stump of wood. Carving demonstrations will begin at 10:30 am, and completed carvings will be available for purchase, with half of the proceeds being donated to the zoo.

Bear Awareness Day activities will take place from 1:00 - 4:00. Participants can learn about our black bears and their relatives, go on a "bear hunt" to find all the bears at the zoo, and even create a bear craft to take home. Fun for the whole family!
