The Buttonwood Park Zoo Society employs the staff in the Membership, Gift Store, Café, Train, Carousel, overnights, scout programs and special events.

Event and Volunteer Coordinator

Full Time
Salary based on experience.

Job Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include the oversight of event and volunteer programs for the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society. Planning the events will include staff meetings, community outreach and solicitations of donations from local businesses. Coordinating the events will include scheduling deliveries, pick-ups, and drop-offs of event items. Coordinating also includes set-up and break-down of the event. The Event and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and supervising all volunteers.
Currently, events include Boo at the Zoo, Holiday Zoobilee, Feast in the Wild, Zoo Nights, and Art Gone Wild. With the hiring of an Event and Volunteer Coordinator, there will be an expectation of new and exciting events.

 

  • Coordinate details of events such as Feast in the Wild, Boo at the Zoo, Holiday Zoobilee, Zoo Nights and new fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist in calculating budgets and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Book talent, including musicians, bands, and disc jockeys.
  • Work with Café Manager to select catering options or select catering companies to prepare food for event.
  • Schedule speakers, vendors, and participants.
  • Coordinate and monitor event timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in all efforts to publicize event.
  • Manage correspondence.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers.
  • Assist in the design of event logos, posters, advertisements, and all correspondence.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including registration and attendee tracking, presentation and materials support and pre- and post-event evaluations.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Individual should be organized, out-going, and a self-starter being able to work independently as well as with a committee. A flexible schedule being available weekends and nights is a necessity. Experience with design programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator is a plus.
Individual will be evaluated on creating profitable events while establishing community connections.

Flashlight Adventures Coordinator

The Flashlight Adventures Coordinator position is a part-time position that is responsible for the facilitation of Buttonwood Park Zoological Society’s overnight programs.

Part-time
Pay: $200/overnight
Department: Education
Reports to Curator of Education
Commitment: Overnight hours are 5:00p – 10:00a; Fridays & Saturdays March – August. The Flashlight Adventure Coordinator can expect to work an average of 16 overnights in a year, but that number is subject to change.

Deadline: Applications due by February 7, 2015

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all program participants; including potential emergency situations that arise.
  • Facilitate fun, engaging overnight programs to a wide range of ages that may include games, hands-on activities, crafts, tours of the zoo, and animal encounters.
  • Set up and break down classroom for programming.
  • Serve and clean-up after dinner and breakfast.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the Zoo professionally.
  • Inventory and maintain program supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with overnight instructors and other Zoo staff.

Qualifications 

  •  18+ years old
  • One or two year’s experience in environmental or informal education
  • Experience working with children ages 6 – adults
  • Customer service experience
  • An appreciation for inquiry-based, conservation education and a clear understanding of the mission of Buttonwood Park Zoo
  • General knowledge of life sciences and conservation issues
  • Ability to adapt and think on your feet
  • Ability to work independently, and with co-facilitators
  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • First Aid/CPR certified (or willing to become certified)

Education Instructor

The Education Instructor position is a part-time position that is responsible for the facilitation of Buttonwood Park Zoological Society’s school and family programs.

Part-time
Pay: $16/hour
Department: Education
Reports to Curator of Education
Commitment: Average 20 hours/week, seasonally more hours available
