ZooCrew Counselor

Full-time, seasonal
$400/week

Department: Education
Reports to: ZooCrew Director
Commitment: Summer ZooCrew Counselors will work Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm; June 29 – August 14. This includes one week of training.  DEADLINE: This is a rolling hiring process with decisions being made by June 8, 2015

Job Responsibilities:  
The Summer ZooCrew Counselors will be in charge of a group of 10-20 participants between the ages of 5 – 10 years for one week sessions. Responsible for delivering daily program that includes zoo tours, crafts, animal presentations, games, and recreation. Lessons include the topics of ecology, zoology, conservation, biology, and life sciences.

  • Ensure the safety of all program participants; including potential emergency situations that arise
  • Build a good rapport with campers and parents 
  • Facilitate fun, engaging summer programs to a wide range of ages that may include games, hands-on activities, crafts, tours of the zoo, and animal encounters
  • Set up and break down classroom for programming. 
  • Supervise and mentor the Counselors-in-Training (CITs); volunteers 13 – 17 year old
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the Zoo professionally
  • Inventory and maintain program supplies
  • Communicate effectively with parents, ZooCrew counselors and other Zoo staff

Qualifications:

  • 18+ years old 
  • Must be responsible, dependable, creative, flexible, and enthusiastic 
  • One or two year’s experience in environmental or informal education, and previous camp experience 
  • Experience working with children ages 5 – 10  
  • Customer service experience 
  • An appreciation for inquiry-based, conservation education and a clear understanding of the mission of Buttonwood Park Zoo 
  • General knowledge of life sciences and conservation issues 
  • Ability to adapt and think on your feet 
  • Ability to work independently, and with co-facilitators
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Time management skills 
  • First Aid/CPR certified (or willing to become certified) 
  • Able to work outside in varying conditions 
  • Successful candidates must pass background check and TB test

Bear’s Den Café staff

The Bears Den Cafe at Buttonwood Park Zoo is now accepting applications for experienced staff. Positions are part time, seasonal, weather dependent. Weekend availability is expected.

Part-time pay: $9/hour
Reports to: Café Manager
Commitment: 10-20 hours/week, seasonally more hours available
Deadline: Applications due by February 27, 2015

Responsibilities

  • Set up, breakdown and daily cleaning of Café and Kitchen
  • Set up and break down of Café and Rental units for parties and events
  • Above incudes lifting and moving of tables, chairs and other light equipment
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Represent the Zoo professionally

Qualifications

  • 18+ years old
  • One or more years of experience in food service including grill, fryolator, sandwich/salad station , customer service and cash register
  • Ability to accept direction , to multi task and to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to keep busy, to work independently, and with co-workers

North Woods Gift Store Sales Associates and Amusement Ride Operators

The North Woods Gift Store at the Buttonwood Park Zoo is currently accepting applications for sales associates and Carousel and Train ride operators. Positions are part time, seasonal and weather dependent. Weekend availability is a must.

The successful candidates will be cross trained as both store sales associates and train & carousel operators.

Part-time pay: $9/hour
Reports to: Gift Store and amusements manager.

Responsibilities:   

  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Represent the Zoo professionally
  • Perform daily operator safety inspection of rides
  • Daily cleaning of rides and maintaining a neat and clean surrounding area
  • Other duties as may be directed by manage.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able to work well with children
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to accept direction, to multi task to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to keep busy, to work independently and with co-workers
